Gohar Abrahamyan joined the Advocates after nearly two years at the Metropolitan Public Defender’s office as a public defender in Portland, OR. Her trial experience provides her with the skills and knowledge necessary to advocate fiercely for her clients. Gohar came to the Advocates seeking a client-centered firm that aligns with her own values of advocacy, compassion, and efficacy. She believes deeply in the notion that institutions should work for people and has dedicated her career to pushing forward that goal.
Gohar grew up in Los Angeles, California, where her parents settled after immigrating to the U.S. from Armenia. She attended the University of California, Berkeley for her undergraduate education, where she studied history. She spent some time in AmeriCorp, working in refugee resettlement in Pittsburgh, PA. Gohar earned her J.D. at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, during which time she externed as a clerk with California’s bankruptcy court and participated in UC Irvine’s Criminal Justice Clinic.
In her spare time, Gohar likes to paint, read fiction, do pilates, watch horror movies, and play with her two cats, Ralphie and Rennie. She has recently delved into the world of plant care and hopes to expand her collection of tropical plants.
