Man Flees Lynnwood Crash, Hit by Car

A Marysville man is in critical condition after fleeing a car crash and being hit by a car. The initial crash occurred when the 26-year-old man crashed his Nissan Maxima into an I-5 guardrail just outside of Lynnwood. The crash occurred just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Washington State Patrol reported that the Marysville man was apparently speeding as he traveled south along I-5. He then seemed to lose control of the Nissan, collided with the guardrail, and rolled the vehicle, eventually landing it on its roof.

Trooper Travis Shearer, a spokesman for the Washington State Patrol, said the man proceeded to exit the wrecked Nissan and attempted to flee the crash by crossing the southbound lanes of I-5. He was then hit by an unrelated vehicle traveling in the HOV lane. The second vehicle, a Toyota Camry, was being driven by a 35-year-old woman visiting from Washington D.C. She did not suffer any major injuries as a result of the crash.

Police are still investigating the cause of the initial crash and why, exactly, the man fled the scene.

“Lots of questions, not a lot of answers,” said Trooper Shearer.

The injured man was quickly transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. Currently, his condition is unknown.

Traffic along I-5 was backed up for just under two hours.

The driver is being investigated for potentially driving under the influence.
